Planning your session -
Before your session we'll discuss the mood and look you prefer and what clothing and/or props will be appropriate. Your ideas and tastes are important to the design of your portrait session and will assist me in creating images that capture your child's natural personality and whimsical dreams.
The variety of sessions offered includes black & white environmental or studio, color and fantasy angel or faerie watercolor portraits.
Choose the simple artistry of a classic black & white portrait or add vintage props and wardrobe for a fun and playful experience. While I prefer black & white to document my client's essence, there are some occasions when color is just perfect for the moment. My more whimsical work reflects the world I inhabited as a child, full of imaginative fantasy and make believe, a world I've loved revisiting with my own children.
You may notice that many of the portraits displayed are not "smiley face." I adore smiles, they make me happy. When they are real. But a smile is not always my favorite expression and not the only way to glimpse the heart of a child. My goal is to document a full range of your child's expressions. Photographing relationships and emotional connections is one of my priorities. I find that less "posing" tends to result in the most natural, heart tugging images.
I allow plenty of time for your custom portrait session so that we may take a play break or stop for a hug from mom. Extra time is allotted for maternity and baby sessions to allow for a few moments rest or nursing as needed.
I encourage a meeting prior to our photography day, especially if your child is very shy or more cautious to warm up to strangers. This allows us time to get to know each other with less pressure and anxiety. I want our time together to be a fun experience, one they look forward to repeating!
Periodically I offer special mini sessions, usually with a seasonal theme and set. These sessions are generally shorter in length, fewer images are created and are offered as a special package. Full sessions are also available for seasonal theme settings.
Reserving your session -
Upon scheduling your appointment I require $50 of the session package fee as a nonrefundable reservation retainer with the remaining balance due by start of the session. In order to confirm and hold your appointment time the retainer must reach me within 5 business days of scheduling. As my available session dates are limited please notify me as soon as possible if you need to reschedule for any reason.
Personal Cameras -
In order to avoid distracting or fatiguing the child being photographed I request that no other cameras, still or video, be present during our session.
The studio is located in Simi, Ventura County, CA. I am available to travel to your location for some commissions. Environmental sessions, in a park or at the beach, are great settings to showcase your child's natural exuberance and curiosity.
